FDI in the United States, Quarter Two 2019

Foreign direct investment in the United States (FDIUS) totaled $64.3 billion in the second-quarter 2019, following a stronger investment of $86.3 billion in the previous quarter of 2019. Net equity flows made up $26 billion in second-quarter 2019 inward investment, and this is down 44 percent from the first- quarter 2019. 

Foreign direct investment flows in second-quarter 2019 were below the average for the past three years, and reinvestment of earnings made up almost 60 percent of second-quarter FDIUS. Foreign direct investment in the United States in 2018 was down eight percent from 2017 and down 45 percent from the record-breaking level attained in 2016.
