OFII applauds Secretary Pritzker for naming Sanofi US and BMW North America to nation’s ‘principal advisory committee’
WASHINGTON – Nancy McLernon, president and CEO of the Organization for International Investment (OFII), issued the following statement in support of Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker for naming two insourcing companies to the U.S. Manufacturing Council.
“Insourcing manufacturing companies have a vested interest in promoting a strong, vibrant and innovative industry in America,” said McLernon. “OFII has long advocated for the inclusion of insourcing companies on the Manufacturing Council, and I applaud Secretary Pritzker for keeping her commitment to adding new voices to this principal advisory committee. Sanofi US and BMW North America are two examples of insourcing manufacturers that are strengthening our economy and creating jobs for hardworking Americans.”
The U.S. Manufacturing Council, created in 2004 by President George W. Bush, provides manufacturers a critical forum for finding solutions to industry-related problems and facilitating communication with the federal government.
Until Secretary Pritzker announced the expansion in eligibility during the SelectUSA Investment Summit in November 2013, insourcing companies were excluded from serving on the Council. That is despite the fact insourcing companies have poured more into manufacturing than any other industry sector in the United States — a staggering $900 billion — and support nearly two million Americans with high-paying jobs and excellent benefits.
Earlier today, the Commerce Department announced that representatives from Sanofi US and BMW North America would fill two of the five vacant positions available on the Council.
